Bipolar Junction Transistors (BJTs) are semiconductor devices used for amplification and switching in electronic circuits. They operate by using a small current at one terminal (the base) to control a larger current flowing between the other two terminals (the collector and emitter). Because both electrons and holes participate in conduction, they are called bipolar devices.
BJTs are available in two main types: NPN and PNP, each differing in current direction and biasing. When properly biased, a BJT can operate in different regions—cutoff, active, and saturation—allowing it to function as an amplifier or an electronic switch.
