Field-Effect Transistors (FETs) are semiconductor devices used for amplification and switching, where the flow of current is controlled by an electric field rather than current injection. In a FET, a voltage applied to the gate terminal controls the current flowing between the drain and source terminals, resulting in very low input current and high input impedance.
FETs are mainly classified into JFETs (Junction FETs) and MOSFETs (Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor FETs), with MOSFETs being the most widely used in modern electronics. They can operate in different regions such as cutoff, linear (ohmic), and saturation, making them suitable for both analog and digital applications.
