Insulation Resistance Testers (often called Megohmmeters or Meggers) are specialized electrical instruments used to measure the insulation resistance of wires, cables, motors, transformers, and electrical installations. They help assess the condition of insulation and identify deterioration, moisture ingress, or leakage paths that could lead to electrical faults or safety hazards.
These testers work by applying a high DC test voltage (commonly 250 V, 500 V, 1000 V, or higher) across the insulation and measuring the resulting leakage current to calculate resistance, typically expressed in megaohms (MΩ) or gigaohms (GΩ).
